Announcements From the U.S. Postal Service

Announcements are shown in order by effective date.

SUBJECT: Move Update

MANDATORY: November 23, 2008

DESCRIPTION: The Postal Service is stepping up its efforts to reduce undeliverable-as-addressed (UAA) mail. On November 23rd, new Move Update standards take effect. To be ready, mailers must begin using addresses that were updated no earlier than August 20th. The Move Update standards provide options for customers to reduce the number of mailpieces that require forwarding, return or being treated as waste by periodically matching address records with customerfiled change-of-address orders.  Ask your FNBR rep for quick and easy ways we can help you comply with the Move Update requirement.

SUBJECT: Flat Sized Mail

MANDATORY: March 29, 2009

DESCRIPTION: The definition for the "top" of the mailer will change, along with the location of the recipient information.  FNBR encourages all customers who mail flat sized mail (like newsletters, magazines and large envelopes) to consult with their FNBR represtative prior to the printing of any upcoming mailers.  Many customers pre-print a large supply of such items, and should consider if their inventory will be used during or after March 29, 2009.

SUBJECT: Intelligent Mail Barcode (IMB)

MANDATORY: May, 2009 ¹

DESCRIPTION: The IMB barcode will replace the Postnet barcode.  The IMB includes additional information beyond the recipient's address, and allows for better efficiences for the USPS.  There will be two processing levels (Full Service and Basic) for the IMB.  This also impacts the printing of Business Reply Mail (BRM) and Courtesy Reply Mail (CRM) barcodes.  Please consult with your FNBR rep for additional information.
